There are two special card types for this set: Battle cards and Multiverse Legends.
About Battle Cards
One new gameplay mechanic coming with March of the Machine is Battle, which is a whole new way your players can immerse themselves in the fight to save the Multiverse.
All Battle cards are double-faced cards that enter the battlefield on the “Battle” side—and the player who casts the Battle card chooses an opponent to protect it. Players can attack Battle cards the same way they can attack Planeswalkers. On the other side of a Battle card is the reward for winning it. When you win the Battle, its controller casts the card on the backside of the Battle for free.

Battle cards will deliver on the story theme of the multiverse in peril in a big way, and players can find battle cards in several Boosters in the set.
What is a Multiverse Legend?
Multiverse Legends refers to a non-Standard-legal bonus sheet of cards, similar to the Retro Artifact cards from The Brothers’ War. This sheet of reprinted cards will have the set code MUL, and feature special treatments from sixteen planes across the multiverse.
In addition, a selection of Legends from March of the Machine will appear in these Booster Fun treatments, making them a fun throwback to fan-favorite Booster Fun of sets’ past. Some planes are receiving a Booster Fun treatment for the first time, such as Ravnica and Ixalan.

There are a couple key things to keep in mind with Multiverse Legends:
- If the set code is MUL, they are from the bonus sheet and are not Standard-legal.
- If the set code is MOM, it is planar Booster Fun from the main set, not a Multiverse Legend.
Multiverse Legends and planar Booster Fun appear in Draft, Set, and Collector Boosters.
Prerelease

At Prerelease, players will find one of three mechanically unique promo cards alongside their usual year-stamped foil promo card. Each Prerelease promo card is not Standard-legal, instead carrying the set code MOC, indicating they’re legal for Commander. This also means that only the year-stamped foil promo can be used in a player’s Sealed pool.
Each of these special Prerelease promo cards may be found in traditional foil, nonfoil, or borderless alt-art versions—featuring treatments from the planes Kamigawa, Innistrad, and Dominaria respectively. They are only found in the Prerelease Packs, so be sure to encourage players to register for your event if they want one!
Each prerelease kit contains:
- 6 March of the Machine Draft Boosters
- 1 Traditional Foil, year-stamped Rare or Mythic Rare
- 1 new Mythic Rare card (Traditional Foil in 18% of Prerelease Packs)
